The Sun acquisition has been approved by the European Union 

After nine months the EU have given the go ahead for Oracle's acquisition of Sun, read the full story.  

Ronan Miles, chairman of UKOUG, travelled to Brussels and in collaboration with Ian Abramson, president of the US-based Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG), presented a joint front to support the deal. For the full press release. 

The history 

In April 2009 Oracle and Sun entered into a definitive agreement under which Oracle would acquire Sun, read the full story. However the EU sent a statement of objections to Sun. This caused some discussion and the UKOUG Board wrote to the EU to support the acquisition, read the letter here. Ronan Miles was then asked to present at the EU ruling in Brussels. On Thursday 21st January 2010 the EU announced that the deal could go ahead.
